I was going to post a cake today..but it doesn’t feel right to do that.
I don’t have a large following, but as a business owner I feel responsible to be a good steward of my values and the privilege I have to outreach with those that do follow me.
In just three weeks of the new year, there has been violence against immigrants, other countries, and US Citizens alike. Headlines that I never imagined to read and watch on what once was a newsfeed filled with baking marketing tips and crochet patterns. “
It can’t get worse than this...right?,” I think to myself. But the rose colored glasses can’t be put back on.
My heart aches for the families torn apart, for those killed unjustly, Renee and Alex and many others not represented in the headlines, for the counties in the wreckages of war, and for all of our collective lack of peace and answers. I feel helpless for I know that I cannot resolve these alone.
But all of us together raising our voices and votes can.
Call and email your senators.
Volunteer in your local community.
Attend public events if able and safe to do so.
And share far and wide your heartache, for this is the only way to heal it.
I’m not going to become a political page, I’ll post my cake photos again tomorrow, but today I want you to know that I stand with you all in the unrest and rage. You are not alone. We can make change. But we need to come together to do so.
As a tangible thing I can do, I’m going to do a special for the month of February: Profits from the orders of these cupcakes will be donated to my local community assistance center, Buist Community Assistance Center ! So please share this! Make me the busiest baker this month so we can share and make some local change ($36 per dozen, pick ups on Fridays or Saturday’s)
